Roper Takes The Reigns
Macquarie University AFC is proud to welcome former Warrior Lisa “Kiwi” Roper back to the club in the role of Head of Women’s Football.
Roper, who was part of the Warriors’ 2013 SWAFL Premiership side, will take the reins as head of the Club’s successful women’s program and as Head Coach of the Women’s Premier Division side.
With 19 years in the game, Roper has spent the past two seasons coaching in the VFL Women’s competition and NAB League.
Roper played 250 games - including representing New South Wales - before turning to coaching, starting in Sydney with the Bondi Shamrocks (Now UTS Shamrocks) and Wollongong Saints before becoming an assistant coach at the Darebin Falcons and then Collingwood in the VFLW.
Macquarie President Kristian Purdie said the club was thrilled to welcome Roper on board for season 2020.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Lisa back to the club,” he said.
“Lisa comes to the club with a wealth of knowledge and the experience of being involved with elite-level coaching programs in both New South Wales and Victoria.
“As a former Warrior Lisa understands the club’s history and culture and will help to elevate our women’s program to a new level in 2020 and beyond.”
Roper said she is delighted to be returning to Macquarie.
“I am incredibly excited to return take on this role and be back at a club where I have a number of great memories,” she said.
“The program is in a great period of transition, but I believe that the club can continue to be successful both on and off the field in women’s football.
Roper replaces former Head Coach Ryan Miller who stepped down due last month.
Purdie thanked Miller for his contribution.
“Ryan’s contribution to the club has been incredibly valuable over the past two seasons, with him guiding our Division Two Women’s side to two finals series” he said.
“We wish Ryan all the best with his move back to Western Australia.”
Macquarie University begins its 2020 AFL Sydney Premier Division Women’s season on the weekend of July 18/19.
