Update on this Weekend's Gameday
MUAFC has received correspondence from Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, advising that NSW Health will be updating the COVID-19 Safety Plan templates as a result of the rising case numbers in NSW.
Of note, sport and recreation organisations will be required to ‘take all reasonable steps to minimise the number of spectators attending community sport events’.
With that in mind, we have been asked that all community sport organisations put plans in place to minimise community sport spectators where practical, to parents and carers only. We as a club also need to ensure processes are in place to exclude participants and spectators if they have visited any of the reported case locations on the NSW Health website.
The club and the AFL have worked incredibly hard to get to this point; where we can start the season. We all have an obligation to do this to ensure that the hard work put in to stand up the season doesn’t go to waste. As a community asset, the role of the football club is to ensure the safety of the community. This requires us to provide an environment where everyone feels safe and comfortable to enjoy watching and playing the sport. Whilst the club are to their best endeavours putting measures in place to do that, we ask everyone in and around the club on game day to help us to keep everyone healthy and safe.
What are we going to do?
Community sport and recreation organisations will need to update their COVID-19 Safety Plans detailing the actions that will be put in place to address these additional requirements.
We have been asked to put plans in place to minimise community sport spectators to parents and carers only where practical. Measures that will be used to assist with this include:
Ensure processes are in place to exclude participants (including spectators and officials) if they have visited Victoria in the 14 days prior.
Ensure processes are in place to exclude participants (including spectators and officials) if they have attended any of the reported case locations listed on the NSW Health website (https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates).
Continuing to follow all protocols advised by both NSW Health and AFL NSW/ACT
Restricting spectator entry at adult community sport to 1 parent/carer/other per player to attend a match
Increasing signage in venue carparks and common entry points at outdoor venues
Minimise participants playing across multiple teams on one day where possible
